The Manifest Destiny of Twitter Applications

In the aftermath of Twitter’s acquisition of Tweetie and rollout of a Blackberry app, there’s certainly been a lot of concern brewing. Much of it warranted.

While our guess is good as anyone’s…

Here’s what we know:

At oneforty, we’ve cataloged 2665 Twitter apps to date. More interestingly, we’re tracking over 12,000 new source tags from the garden hose - each one representing an “undiscovered” app or one in development.

Somewhere in those 12,000 tags, there are laser-focused, visionary developers building the next generation of game-changing applications. Our job at oneforty is to help these apps and their developers get found, and to that end, we just launched Toolkits - an easy way for users to share curated collections of their favorite apps.

As a community, we’ve barely scratched the surface of what Twitter is capable of. If you’re here, it’s because you believe in the uncharted opportunities that lie just over the horizon. So the real question is…

Who will rise up to the challenge?

Tonight, we pack our bags for San Francisco to attend the largest gathering of Twitter app developers in the world.

For the developers going to Chirp - we look forward to seeing you there! Be sure to drop by our 4/13 Pre-Chirp party at the Porter Novelli offices (note the location change).

For those NOT going to Chirp - Chirp will be livestreamed at Justin.tv. Here on our dev blog, we’ll be setting up a ScribbleLive account to liveblog the event from a developer’s perspective. So even if you can’t fly out to San Fran, you can still be in the know.

Either way, we’re interested in hearing your thoughts. Watch this space. The fun is about to begin.
