developer discussion: Subscriptions & Payments
Last Wednesday, we had a conference call with a few of you to get some feedback on the subscriptions service we’re launching and learn what you’re most interested in having the service provide.
Here are some of the key talking points:
- How do you plan to monetize your app? If you’re selling it, what are you using to do so?
- Do you want to have tiers/multiple levels of pricing? How are you looking to structure it?
- What information regarding a completed sale on oneforty would you like relayed?
- How would you like that information conveyed? Immediate emails/DMs or summary messages?
- What are your other questions or concerns about subscription payments?
Here are some of the key comments we heard:
- Comments on other payment systems:
- They can be frustrating due to the necessity for merchant accounts, payment gateways and more.
- Documentation can be inconsistent and hard to follow
- Some of you are looking for more on demand info about your customers.
- Monthly fees make it very hard to get started, because there’s no guarantee you’ll make enough sales to cover it.
- General functionality discussion:
- Notifications:
- Many would like emails for every sale…until they scale to the point of that being overwhelming
- Some of you would like to be able to make an API call to be able to get the data on your current subscribers through oneforty
- On oneforty.com:
- Some of you would like to have the multiple tiers/levels/editions shown in the search/browsing of oneforty, so they’re well highlighted.
- Many of you were interested in us creating a widget which would allow you to sell through oneforty while keeping the user on your site.
- Many of you are interested in being able to sell your app, but it seems to require a lot of work.
- Notifications:
Big thanks to the developers who joined us on the call! We’ll be doing many more of these in the future, so stay tuned to the oneforty developer blog and we’ll let you know of future calls, chats and ways to get your questions answered.
